If your hot water tank is the reason for a family argument before 8 am, read on.
A 40 or 50 gallon tank has a hard limit, and a family of four finds it by 7:30 am. A tankless unit heats on demand at up to 9 or 11.1 GPM, so the hot water lasts as long as the fixtures run.
A rented tank can cost you more over fifteen years than buying a tankless outright. We size and install a Rinnai you own, and we can help arrange the return of the rental unit.
A leaking tank is a flood waiting for a long weekend. A wall-mounted tankless has no tank to rust through, and we can usually replace a failing tank with a tankless in one visit.
Tanks need time to reheat. On-demand heating has no recovery time, so the dishwasher, shower and washing machine can follow each other without a wait.
A Rinnai tankless mounts on the wall in roughly the space of a carry-on suitcase. That's floor space back in the basement.
A tank reheats itself around the clock whether you use it or not. A condensing tankless at 0.97 to 0.98 UEF only burns gas when a tap opens.
Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.

Tankless sizing is about temperature rise, and that's where Ontario is different from the brochure. Incoming water in a Southern Ontario winter can drop into the single digits Celsius, and well water up north runs colder still. To deliver a 49°C shower from 5°C water, the heater has to raise the temperature by about 44°C, and a tankless unit's flow rate falls as the required rise climbs. The GPM number on the box is a best-case figure at a small rise.
So we size by what you'll actually run at once in February: a shower uses roughly 2 to 2.5 GPM, a kitchen tap about 1.5, a washing machine about 2. Two showers and a dishwasher at the same time is a job for the RX199iN; one shower and a tap is fine on the RX160iN. We count your fixtures, check your winter inlet temperature, and pick the model that still delivers when it's -20°C outside, not just in July.

Installed pricing depends on the model, venting route, gas line work and whether you add recirculation. Your quote is guaranteed.

Tankless water heater installation with EHI starts at $3,300 installed for a Rinnai RX160iN. The RX199iN, propane set-ups, gas line upsizing and recirculation add to that, and installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements. We give a guaranteed quote before any work, and 0% financing is available.
Size depends on how many hot fixtures run at once and how cold your incoming water gets in winter. For most Ontario homes with two bathrooms the Rinnai RX160iN at up to about 9 GPM is enough; homes with three or more bathrooms, or a soaker tub, usually need the RX199iN at up to about 11.1 GPM.
Yes, within its flow rate. A tankless unit heats water as it passes through, so a single shower can run as long as you like. Run more fixtures than it is sized for at once and the flow or temperature drops, which is why sizing for winter inlet water matters.
Yes. The Rinnai RX160iN and RX199iN are available for natural gas or propane, so homes outside the Enbridge gas grid can have the same endless hot water. Our TSSA-certified technicians handle the gas connection either way.
Usually both. Condensing Rinnai units vent through PVC or polypropylene pipe to the outdoors rather than the old chimney, and a 160,000 to 199,000 BTU burner often needs a larger gas line than a tank used. We check the venting route and gas capacity on the assessment and include any changes in the guaranteed quote.
For most households, yes, especially if you are paying tank rental fees or running out of hot water. A condensing Rinnai at 0.97 to 0.98 UEF has no standby heat loss, lasts longer than a tank with annual maintenance, and frees up floor space. Homes with very hard water should plan on an annual flush to keep it that way.
Most tankless water heater installations are finished in one day, including removing the old tank. Jobs that need a new gas line run or a long venting route can take a bit longer, and we tell you that in the quote.
