An 80% AFUE furnace wastes 20 cents of every heating dollar. At 96% that drops to 4 cents. Replacing an 80% unit with a 96% model cuts the gas used for heating by roughly one sixth, before you touch the thermostat.
That's a single-stage furnace running at full fire every cycle. A two-stage furnace runs on low fire most of the time, with longer, gentler cycles and far less noise.
A variable-speed ECM blower ramps airflow to match the stage and keeps air moving longer, which evens out temperatures room to room.
Longer low-speed run times pull more air through the filter and give a furnace humidifier more time to work.
A high-efficiency furnace is the backup half of a hybrid heat pump system. The heat pump runs most of the season and the furnace covers the coldest nights.
A condensing furnace vents through PVC out a side wall, so you can retire the chimney liner and the problems that come with it.
Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) is the share of gas that becomes heat in your home over a season. A 96% AFUE furnace turns 96 cents of every gas dollar into heat. Older furnaces run 60% to 80%.
Condensing furnaces hit those numbers with a second heat exchanger that pulls extra heat from the exhaust until water vapour condenses out. The exhaust is cool enough to vent through PVC, and the condensate runs to a drain.
Single-stage furnaces are on or off at full fire. Two-stage furnaces, like the Lennox ML296V, EL297V and Midea MGH96, run at about 65% on mild days and only step up to full fire in a deep cold snap. Modulating furnaces adjust in smaller steps for the steadiest temperatures, at a higher price.
A variable-speed ECM blower matches airflow to the stage, uses a fraction of the electricity of an old PSC motor, and runs quietly on low for better filtration and more even heat.

All three are two-stage, variable-speed condensing furnaces from brands we're authorized to sell and service.

A Manual J style calculation sets the BTU. A high-efficiency furnace that's oversized still short cycles, so we size for the house, not the old label.
Most installs take four to eight hours. Our TSSA-certified gas techs set gas pressure, verify both stages fire, check temperature rise and register your warranty.
Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements such as venting routes and ductwork. Your quote is guaranteed.

A high-efficiency furnace is a condensing gas furnace rated 90% AFUE or higher, meaning at least 90 cents of every gas dollar becomes heat in your home. The models EHI installs run 96% to 97% AFUE, use a second heat exchanger to capture extra heat, and vent through PVC instead of a chimney.
A high-efficiency furnace installed by EHI starts at $3,300 for a 96% AFUE two-stage, variable-speed model such as the Lennox ML296V or Midea MGH96. The 97% AFUE Lennox EL297V and larger sizes are quoted after a free assessment, and the price is guaranteed before work begins.
Moving from an 80% AFUE furnace to 96% cuts the gas burned for heating by about one sixth, and moving from a 60% unit cuts it by over a third. Your actual savings depend on your home's heat loss and Enbridge rates, and we can estimate it from your past bills.
Yes, for most Ontario homes. A two-stage furnace runs on low fire about 80% of the time, which means quieter operation, steadier temperatures and less wear than a single-stage furnace that blasts on and off.
A two-stage furnace has two firing rates, low and high. A modulating furnace adjusts its firing rate in small steps, often from 40% to 100%, for the most even heat. Two-stage gives most of the comfort benefit at a lower price, which is why we recommend it for most homes.
No. A condensing furnace vents through two PVC pipes out a side wall or roof, so it doesn't use the chimney. If your water heater also vents through the chimney, we'll check that it can still vent safely on its own.
Yes. A high-efficiency furnace paired with a cold-climate heat pump is called a hybrid or dual-fuel system. The heat pump handles most of the heating season and the furnace takes over in deep cold, and the heat pump can qualify for the Ontario heat pump rebate.
