Signs it's time to call an HVAC company in Mississauga

Original equipment rarely fails all at once. It drops hints first. Here are the ones we hear about most, and what we do about each.

  • The AC runs all afternoon and the house still sits at 26°C

A low refrigerant charge, a dirty coil or a unit that was undersized from day one are the usual suspects. We test charge and airflow first. If the unit still runs on R-22, a refrigerant being phased out and costly to top up, replacing it is usually the smarter spend.

  • The sunroom is useless in January and again in July

Glass rooms lose heat fast, gain it fast, and are rarely on the main ducts. A single-zone ductless mini split heats and cools the room on its own, so you can finally use it year round.

  • The basement feels damp and chilly with the furnace running

Lakeshore dampness and a basement with one or two supply registers make a cold, clammy space. We look at returns and airflow, and a ductless unit can add heat, cooling and dehumidification just for that level.

  • The furnace is the one that came with the house

A furnace from the 1970s or 1990s is often a single-stage, mid-efficiency unit near the end of its working life. A two-stage, variable-speed model at 96% to 97% AFUE burns less gas and holds a steadier temperature, from $3,300 installed.

  • Indoor air feels sticky even when the AC is on

An oversized air conditioner cools the air quickly and shuts off before it pulls the moisture out. A properly sized, variable-speed system runs longer at lower speed, which is what dries out a muggy lakeshore summer.

  • The upper level of your backsplit is always a few degrees off

Split-level homes have long, uneven duct runs. We measure static pressure, balance the dampers, add returns where rooms are starved and pair the new equipment with a variable-speed blower.

What we see inside Mississauga homes

The age of a house tells us a lot before we even open the furnace room door.

  • 1960s and 1970sBungalows and backsplits

Clarkson, Cooksville and Port Credit have plenty of these. Ducts are often small and short on return air.

  • 1990sSubdivision homes

Many houses in Meadowvale and Erin Mills still run equipment from that era, well past a typical service life.

  • ClimateLakeshore humidity

Muggy summers and damp winters mean moisture control matters as much as the number on the thermostat.

  • UtilitiesAlectra Utilities and Enbridge Gas

We compare your Alectra hydro rates with your Enbridge gas use when you weigh a heat pump against a furnace.

Replacing old equipment without tearing out what still works

Replacement does not have to mean starting from scratch. In most Mississauga homes the ductwork is sound, the gas line is fine and the electrical panel has room to spare. What has worn out is the equipment hanging off them.

So we check the house before we price anything. Then we lay out the realistic choices: a new furnace and central AC, a cold-climate heat pump paired with a gas furnace as backup, or an all-electric heat pump with an air handler. You see the cost, the efficiency and the rebate for each one.

Here is what we look at on that first visit:

  • Duct size, static pressure and return air in every main room
  • Electrical panel capacity for a heat pump and its 240V circuit
  • A venting route for a high-efficiency furnace
  • Where the condensate drain can go
  • Whether a ductless head would cover the sunroom or basement better

How an HVAC technician in Mississauga plans your replacement

You should know exactly what you are buying, and why, before anyone unbolts the old unit.

  1. 1

    Walk the house with you

We note the hot and cold rooms, check the ducts and panel, and measure for a Manual J heat-loss calculation.

  2. 2

Show the options side by side

Two or three choices, each with model numbers, AFUE or SEER2 ratings, rebate estimates and one guaranteed price.

  3. 3

Swap the equipment in a day or two

We pull the permits, remove the old unit, install and commission the new one, and leave the furnace room clean.

  4. 4

    Hand over the paperwork

Warranty registration, thermostat setup and any rebate forms are done before we call the job finished.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a furnace usually last in a Mississauga home?

Most gas furnaces last roughly 15 to 20 years with regular maintenance. If yours is original to a 1990s Meadowvale or Erin Mills house, it is worth pricing a replacement before it fails.

Can I replace just the AC and keep my old furnace?

You can, but it is not always the best value. The new coil has to match the furnace blower, and when the furnace is also near the end of its life, replacing both together saves a second install visit.

What is the best way to heat and cool a sunroom?

A single-zone ductless mini split is usually the best fit. It mounts on the wall, needs no ductwork and runs on its own controls, so the room stays comfortable in winter and summer.

Why won't my air conditioning in Mississauga keep the house cool?

The most common reasons are a low refrigerant charge, a dirty coil, poor airflow or a unit sized wrong from the start. We test each one and tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

Can a Mississauga HVAC contractor reuse my existing ductwork?

Usually, yes. We check duct sizes and static pressure, and if the ducts are sound the new system connects to them, with weak spots such as missing returns fixed before we finish.

Do Mississauga homeowners qualify for heat pump rebates?

Many do. Homes heated by electricity, oil or propane can get up to $7,500 for a qualifying cold-climate heat pump through the Home Renovation Savings Program, while Enbridge gas-heated homes get a smaller amount, commonly up to $2,000. Pre-approval has to be in place before installation, and our team files the forms.
