Furnace repair calls we get from Mississauga homes

Older furnaces fail in predictable ways. Here is what you notice, what is usually behind it, and what our technician does about it.

  • The thermostat is calling but the furnace room is silent

On a 1990s furnace that is usually a failed ignitor or a pressure switch that will not close because the inducer motor is worn. We test the ignition sequence step by step and replace the part that actually failed, not the whole control board on a guess.

  • Furnace not heating on the first cold morning of the season

A furnace that sat idle all summer in a damp Mississauga basement often starts the fall with a corroded flame sensor or rusted burners. A cleaning and a gas pressure check fixes most of them in a single visit.

  • The upstairs bedrooms in your backsplit freeze while the main floor roasts

That is often not a furnace fault at all, but a blower that cannot push air through long, undersized ducts. We measure static pressure and temperature rise, test the blower motor and capacitor, and tell you whether balancing the dampers or a variable-speed blower is the fix.

  • It runs for a minute, shuts down, and tries again

Short cycling on an older furnace points to a clogged filter, a limit switch tripping on overheated air, or a cracked heat exchanger. Because the last one is a safety issue, we inspect the exchanger before we reset anything.

  • Water on the floor around a high-efficiency furnace

A condensing furnace makes a steady stream of acidic water all winter. A plugged trap, a sagging drain hose or a frozen outdoor vent backs it up. We clear and re-route the drain and check the venting for the slope that stops it happening again.

  • You smell gas, or the CO alarm went off

Leave the house and call Enbridge Gas's emergency line or 911 before you call us. Once it is safe, we test for leaks, inspect the heat exchanger and venting, and measure carbon monoxide at the registers before the furnace runs again.

  • The furnace is 25 years old and you are dreading the repair bill

Tell us the model and the symptom and we will say up front which failures are common on that unit. At that age, a blower motor, inducer or control board repair often lands close to the monthly payment on a new two-stage furnace from $3,300, so we put both numbers on the same sheet.

  • Your townhome furnace sits in a closet nobody can reach around

Furnaces in Churchill Meadows and Lisgar townhomes often share a tight closet with the water heater. Our techs work in those spaces every week, and if access is the real problem we say so and plan a layout the next service call can live with.

  • Sound familiar?

Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.

Furnace repair cost in Mississauga, and what a new one runs

Repairs are quoted after diagnosis, because an ignitor and a heat exchanger are very different bills. A new high-efficiency furnace starts at $3,300 installed. Both numbers go in writing before any work.

What a furnace repair visit in Mississauga looks like

No part gets replaced until you have seen the price and the reason.

  1. 1

    Tell us the symptom

When you call or book online, describe what the furnace does and does not do, plus its age if you know it. That helps the technician arrive with the likely parts on the truck.

  2. 2

Diagnosis with a meter, not a guess

A TSSA-certified gas technician checks the thermostat call, reads the fault code, tests the ignition, flame, pressure and limit circuits and inspects the heat exchanger.

  3. 3

    Price in writing

You see the repair cost before we open a parts box. On a furnace near the end of its life you also see what a new unit would cost, and the choice stays yours.

  4. 4

    Repair, safety test, clean up

We fit the part, run the furnace through full cycles, test gas pressure and carbon monoxide, and leave the furnace room the way we found it.

What a Mississauga furnace tune up covers

A fall tune up catches most of the failures we get emergency calls about in January. It also keeps most extended warranties valid.

  • Combustion check: burner flames, gas supply and manifold pressure against the rating plate
  • Ignitor and flame sensor cleaned, tested and replaced if the readings are out of range
  • Heat exchanger inspected for cracks and rust, carbon monoxide measured at the supply registers
  • Inducer motor, pressure switch and hose checked for the draft the furnace needs to light
  • Blower wheel cleaned, motor amps and capacitor tested, temperature rise recorded
  • Condensate trap flushed and drain line checked on high-efficiency models
  • Vent pipes checked for slope, joints and blockage, including the outdoor terminals
  • Filter replaced, thermostat checked, every reading written on your service record

Our repair-or-replace rule for original Mississauga furnaces

Here is the rule we use. If the furnace is under 12 years old and the fault is a single part, repair it and move on. Ignitors, flame sensors, capacitors and pressure switches are routine on any brand.

If the furnace is original to a 1990s Meadowvale house, or older, and the repair involves the blower motor, the inducer, the control board or the heat exchanger, we add up three things: the repair quote, the age, and what you pay Enbridge every winter. A mid-efficiency furnace from that era sends roughly a fifth of the gas it burns up the chimney. A new two-stage model at 96% or 97% AFUE keeps nearly all of it, and starts at $3,300 installed.

A cracked heat exchanger ends the conversation. We do not run a furnace with one, and neither should you.

Whatever you choose, you get both numbers on the same sheet. For the full list of symptoms we see across Ontario, read our furnace repair and maintenance page. For everything else in the house, start with our Mississauga HVAC page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does furnace repair cost in Mississauga?

Furnace repair cost in Mississauga depends on the part, so we quote in writing after diagnosis and before any work. Common parts such as ignitors, flame sensors and capacitors sit at the low end, while blower motors, inducers and control boards cost more. If the furnace is near the end of its life we show a new furnace from $3,300 installed beside the repair price.

Do you offer emergency furnace repair in Mississauga?

Yes. We take furnace repair calls in Mississauga evenings, weekends and holidays. Tell us the symptom when you book, and we give you an arrival window we can actually keep rather than a promise we cannot.

Is it worth repairing a furnace from the 1990s?

Often, yes, if the fault is a small part and the heat exchanger is sound. If the repair is a major component, the furnace is over 20 years old or it has needed two repairs in two winters, replacement usually costs less over the next few years. We give you both prices and let you decide.

Can you repair my furnace if it is a brand you do not sell?

Yes. Our TSSA-certified technicians repair every major furnace brand sold in Ontario, and common parts such as ignitors, sensors, capacitors and pressure switches ride on the truck. A brand-specific part may need a second visit, which we tell you before you approve the repair.

How often should a furnace in Mississauga be tuned up?

Once a year, in early fall before the first cold snap. A damp basement in Clarkson or Port Credit is hard on burners and flame sensors, so an annual furnace tune up pays for itself in avoided breakdowns and keeps most extended warranties valid.

Can I finance a new furnace if the repair is not worth it?

Yes. If the diagnosis turns into a replacement, we offer 0% financing for 3, 6 or 9 months and open loans from 2.99% on approved credit. A replacement is also the moment to look at a heat pump and the Home Renovation Savings Program rebate, which we can check for you.
