Why we install Midea ductless systems

Midea is one of the largest HVAC manufacturers in the world and builds a huge share of the ductless equipment sold in Canada. The Hyper Heat line is the part of that catalogue made for our winters.

Heats in real Ontario cold. Hyper Heat is Midea's low-temperature heating technology. These are cold-climate ductless heat pumps, not just air conditioners with a heat setting, so a Midea ductless unit can carry a room, a basement apartment or a cottage through a January cold snap.

Inverter compressor. The outdoor unit ramps up and down to match the room. That means steady temperatures, quiet operation and lower running cost than on-and-off equipment.

Single-zone or multi-zone. One outdoor unit can serve one indoor head, or an Extreme Hyper Heat multi-zone unit can serve several rooms, each with its own remote and temperature. See our multi-zone ductless page for layouts.

Dealer-backed. We register your Midea warranty, we have direct access to parts, and we service what we sell through our mini-split repair and maintenance team.

Who a Midea mini split is right for

Homes with no ductwork

Century homes, boiler-heated houses and baseboard-heated bungalows get heating and cooling without tearing open walls. A Midea multi zone mini split covers the whole house.

Ductless installation

Additions, garages and sunrooms

The furnace was never sized for that new room. A single-zone Midea head heats and cools it on its own circuit without touching the main system.

Cottages and seasonal properties

Cold-climate heating for shoulder seasons and winter visits, cooling for muggy July nights, and no oil tank or propane furnace to babysit.

Basement apartments and in-law suites

Give the suite its own temperature control and keep the main-floor thermostat wars to a minimum. Also a common fix for an upstairs that's always too hot.

Problems a Midea ductless system solves

  • One room is always ten degrees off from the rest of the house

A single-zone Midea Hyper Heat head gives that room its own thermostat and its own capacity. No more cranking the whole house to fix a bonus room.

  • Window air conditioners rattle, drip and block the view

A Midea ductless system cools quietly from a slim wall-mounted head, with the compressor outside. Cleaner look, far lower running cost, and it heats in winter too.

  • Electric baseboards are brutal on the hydro bill

A ductless heat pump delivers two to three units of heat per unit of electricity. Electric-heated homes usually see the largest savings and may qualify for the higher rebate tier.

  • Your old ductless unit stops heating below -10°C

Entry-level mini-splits do that. Midea Hyper Heat and Extreme Hyper Heat are cold-climate designs built to keep heating in deep cold, which is why we specify them for Ontario.

  • You want several rooms covered but only have room for one outdoor unit

An Extreme Hyper Heat multi-zone outdoor unit serves up to five indoor heads. We pick head styles to suit each room, wall-mounted, floor-mounted or ceiling cassette where the model allows.

  • Sound familiar?

Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Midea mini split cost installed in Ontario?

A Midea single-zone mini split installed by EHI starts at $5,500, and multi-zone systems with two to five heads are quoted based on capacity, number of heads and line set runs. Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements, and every quote is guaranteed before work begins.

Does a Midea ductless system heat in a Canadian winter?

Yes. Midea Hyper Heat and Extreme Hyper Heat are cold-climate ductless heat pumps built to keep heating in deep cold, which is why we specify them across Ontario rather than entry-level units that fade below -10°C. For the coldest nights in Northern Ontario we can leave existing baseboards or a furnace as backup.

Is a Midea mini split eligible for the Ontario heat pump rebate?

A Midea ductless heat pump can qualify for the Home Renovation Savings Program when the exact model is on NRCan's qualified products list, with rebate amounts based on size and your current heating fuel. We confirm eligibility before installation and file pre-approval, and program terms can change.

How many indoor heads can one Midea outdoor unit run?

A Midea Extreme Hyper Heat multi-zone outdoor unit can run up to five indoor heads, with the total depending on the capacity of the outdoor unit, from 27,000 to 60,000 BTU. Each head has its own temperature control, so bedrooms and the living room can be set differently.

How loud is a Midea mini split?

A Midea ductless indoor head on low fan is quiet enough for a bedroom, with a soft airflow sound rather than a compressor hum, because the compressor lives outside. The outdoor unit runs at low inverter speed most of the time, and we mount it on anti-vibration brackets away from bedroom windows.

What maintenance does a Midea ductless system need?

Rinse the indoor filters every month in heavy use, keep leaves and snow away from the outdoor unit, and book a yearly service. Our mini split service includes a coil cleaning, condensate drain check and refrigerant charge check.
