Port Perry Heating and Cooling for Lakeside, Rural and In-Town Homes

Three kinds of homes around Lake Scugog, three different fixes

HVAC in Port Perry depends a lot on where your house sits. Waterfront and seasonal places often do best with ductless heat pumps, rural homes on propane are strong candidates for a cold-climate heat pump, and many homes in town just need a dependable new furnace. We handle all three across Scugog and the rest of Durham Region, Ontario, with a guaranteed written quote every time.

  • Ductless heat pumps for cottages and older waterfront homes
  • Propane-to-heat-pump conversions with rebate help
  • Furnace replacements by TSSA-certified gas technicians
  • Outdoor units set up high, clear of drifting lake snow

HVAC in Port Perry and around Lake Scugog

Scugog has a historic downtown, newer streets, a long shoreline and plenty of farmland. Each one changes the plan.

  • HomesHeritage, waterfront and rural

Heritage homes near the lake, newer subdivisions, waterfront places on Scugog Island and farm properties out toward Blackstock and Greenbank.

  • WeatherLake-effect snow and wind

Wind across Lake Scugog drives snow into deep drifts, so outdoor equipment needs height and a sheltered spot.

  • UtilitiesElexicon Energy, propane in the country

Many homes in town use Enbridge gas. Rural and island properties often rely on propane, oil or electric heat.

  • RebatesTop tier for propane homes

Homes heated by propane, oil or electricity may qualify for up to $7,500 toward a qualifying cold-climate heat pump.

Lakeside and rural problems an HVAC technician in Port Perry solves

Shoreline, countryside or downtown, these are the issues we see most around Scugog.

  • The cottage is cold in shoulder season and stuffy in August

Seasonal places often have baseboards, a wood stove and no cooling at all. A ductless heat pump heats and cools from one wall-mounted head, so the same unit covers a chilly May weekend and a muggy August night.

  • An older waterfront home has no room for ductwork

Ductless and multi-zone systems need only a small hole through the wall for each indoor head. That keeps plaster, beams and original trim intact.

  • Propane costs keep the thermostat set too low

Rural homes around Seagrave and Nestleton burn a lot of propane over a long winter. A cold-climate heat pump rated to -30°C can take over most of that load, and propane-heated homes often qualify for the top rebate tier.

  • Lake-effect snow keeps choking the outdoor unit

We raise the unit on a stand or wall bracket, keep it out from under the roof edge, and leave room for defrost water to drain. A coil buried in snow can't breathe, and it spends far too long in defrost.

  • The furnace in a downtown heritage home is decades old

Many in-town homes heat with natural gas, and the simplest upgrade is a 96% AFUE two-stage furnace. Our TSSA-certified technicians handle the venting change too, since an old chimney-vented furnace usually needs new PVC venting.

  • A seasonal place needs steady low heat while it sits empty

Many ductless models offer a low-temperature heat setting that holds the house well above freezing at a modest running cost. We set it up and show you how to check on it from home.

  • The propane furnace in Blackstock is done, and the gas line is nowhere near

You have two sensible paths. Replace it with a new propane furnace and keep buying fuel, or pair a cold-climate heat pump with an electric air handler on the same ducts and retire the tank altogether. We price both, and because the house heats with propane today, the heat pump route may qualify for the top rebate tier.

The same steps apply to a downtown furnace swap and a cottage ductless install.

  3. 3

    Guaranteed quote with rebates

One written price for the agreed scope, with your rebate estimate and financing options included.

  4. 4

Install, tidy up and show you the controls

We install and commission the system, clean up, then explain how to run it, including any away settings for a seasonal place.

Leaving propane behind around Lake Scugog: how the switchover works

When a heat pump joins a propane furnace, the thermostat needs one number: the outdoor temperature where the furnace takes over. Above it, the heat pump heats the house on its own. Below it, the furnace runs.

We set that point from your propane price and your Elexicon rate, not from a default in the manual. In a well-insulated home near Seagrave the heat pump may carry everything down to -15°C or lower before propane is cheaper per unit of heat. In a drafty farmhouse the crossover might sit higher. Either way, the tank gets filled far less often.

If you'd rather be rid of the tank for good, a heat pump with an electric air handler replaces the furnace outright, with electric backup strips for the deepest nights. We show both options on the same quote.

Frequently asked questions

Is a ductless heat pump a good choice for a Port Perry cottage?

Yes, for most seasonal and older waterfront places. It heats and cools without ducts, and a low-temperature setting can keep the place above freezing while you're away.

Can a heat pump replace propane heat on Scugog Island?

In most homes, yes. A cold-climate heat pump rated to -30°C can carry most of the winter, and propane-heated homes may qualify for up to $7,500 in rebates.

What's the price range for furnace installation in Port Perry?

Prices start at $3,300 installed for a high-efficiency gas furnace. Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements, and your signed quote locks in the price for the agreed scope.

Where should the outdoor unit go at a lakeside Port Perry home?

Up off the ground and out of the drift zone. We use raised stands or wall brackets, keep units out from under roof edges, and leave clearance for defrost drainage.

Do you service heat pumps and furnaces in Blackstock and Greenbank?

Yes. We cover Port Perry and the rest of Scugog, including Blackstock, Greenbank, Seagrave, Caesarea and Nestleton.

Can I reach emergency HVAC in Port Perry on a holiday weekend?

Yes. Emergency calls are taken evenings, weekends and holidays, so call 1-647-694-5845 and we'll tell you when a technician can get there.
