Heat Pump Rebates Ontario

Ontario Heat Pump Rebates

Up to $7,500 Back, Paperwork Done for You

The Home Renovation Savings Program, delivered by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas with support from the Ontario government, pays up to $7,500 toward a qualifying cold-climate air-source heat pump. This page explains who qualifies, how much you can expect, and the one rule that trips people up: you must be pre-approved before the heat pump goes in. EHI handles every step.

  • Up to $7,500 for electric, oil, propane and wood-heated homes
  • Smaller tier for Enbridge gas-heated homes, commonly up to $2,000
  • No home energy audit required for a heat pump on its own
  • We confirm eligibility, file pre-approval and submit final documents

Who qualifies for the heat pump rebate in Ontario?

You'll likely qualify if all of these are true. We verify each one before pre-approval.

  • You own a home in Ontario (detached, semi, townhouse and many low-rise homes qualify; some property types have extra conditions)
  • The heat pump is a cold-climate air-source model on Natural Resources Canada's qualified products list
  • It's installed by a participating contractor after pre-approval is granted
  • Your home currently has a primary heating system (electric, oil, propane, wood or Enbridge natural gas, each with its own rebate tier)
  • Required documentation, including equipment details and installation invoice, is submitted after install

How to apply for the heat pump rebate (we do most of this)

  1. 1

    Eligibility check

Call us or send the form. We confirm your heating fuel, property type and address against program rules. Five minutes.

  2. 2

    Heat-loss sizing and quote

We size the heat pump properly and pick a model from the NRCan qualified list. You get a guaranteed quote showing the price before and after the estimated rebate.

  3. 3

    Pre-approval before install

We submit the application and wait for approval. Do not let anyone install a rebate-dependent heat pump before this step. Installs done before approval are not eligible.

  4. 4

    Installation

Our licensed crew installs and commissions the system. Most jobs take one day.

  5. 5

    Final documents and payout

We submit the invoice, model and serial numbers and installation details. The program pays the rebate to you.

Rebate questions that stall people (and our answers)

  • My home is heated with natural gas. Is the heat pump still worth it?

Often yes, as a hybrid furnace + heat pump system. The rebate tier is smaller, but the heat pump replaces your AC and handles shoulder-season heating for less than gas in many cases. We'll run the numbers for your home.

  • I heat with electric baseboards or propane

You're in the highest rebate tier, up to $7,500, and you'll usually see the biggest bill savings too. A heat pump with electric air handler or a multi-zone ductless system are the usual routes.

  • I heat with oil

The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program closed to new applicants in July 2026, but the Ontario program still applies and oil-heated homes sit in the higher tier. Ask us about removing the oil tank at the same time.

  • Do I need an energy audit first?

No. A heat pump is a single-upgrade rebate under the Home Renovation Savings Program, so no home energy assessment is required. If you also want insulation or window rebates, an assessment unlocks the bundle.

  • Does a ductless mini-split qualify?

Yes, if the specific model is a cold-climate unit on NRCan's qualified list. We install qualifying Midea ductless systems.

  • Which contractors participate?

The program requires a participating contractor to submit the application. Ask any installer to confirm their enrollment before you sign. We'll show you ours.

  • Is there a free heat pump program in Ontario?

No. There is no free heat pump program for Ontario homeowners. The rebate reduces the cost, and 0% financing can spread the rest. Be careful of anyone claiming otherwise.

  • Sound familiar?

Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ontario heat pump rebate still available in 2026?

Yes. As of our last check the Home Renovation Savings Program is accepting heat pump applications in 2026. The program has not published a fixed end date and can change or close when funding is used up, so we recommend getting pre-approved sooner rather than later.

How much is the heat pump rebate in Ontario?

Up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump in a home heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, calculated by heat pump size. Homes heated with Enbridge natural gas qualify for a smaller tier, commonly up to $2,000. Ground-source heat pumps can receive up to $12,000.

Do I have to get pre-approved before installing a heat pump?

Yes. Pre-approval must be granted before installation. A heat pump installed before approval is not eligible for the rebate. EHI submits the pre-approval for you and schedules the install only after it's confirmed.

Which heat pumps qualify for the Ontario rebate?

The heat pump must be a cold-climate air-source model listed on Natural Resources Canada's qualified products list and installed by a participating contractor. Midea EVOX G3 and selected Kepler and Lennox models we install are on that list; we confirm the exact model number before pre-approval.

Can I get the heat pump rebate as a senior or low-income household?

The Home Renovation Savings Program is not income-tested, so seniors and lower-income homeowners qualify under the same rules as everyone else. Some local utilities and municipalities run extra programs; we'll point you to any that apply in your area.

How long does it take to get the rebate money?

Timelines are set by the program and vary with application volume. Payment typically follows final document submission within a few weeks to a couple of months. We submit everything promptly after install so your file isn't the one holding things up.

Is there a furnace rebate in Ontario?

There is no stand-alone gas furnace rebate under the Home Renovation Savings Program. The heat pump rebate is the main HVAC incentive, and pairing a heat pump with a new high-efficiency furnace as a hybrid system lets you claim the heat pump portion.
