Gas-heated homes adding a heat pump
A new MGH96 furnace plus an EVOX G3 heat pump is a hybrid system. The heat pump handles most of the heating season and the furnace takes over in the deep cold.

Midea is one of the largest HVAC manufacturers on the planet, and their indoor equipment is designed around the same EVOX G3 heat pump we install more than any other. Matching the indoor and outdoor unit is where real-world efficiency comes from.
MGH96 gas furnace. Two-stage means it runs on a low flame most of the time and steps up only when a cold snap demands it. The variable-speed motor moves air quietly at the speed the house needs. At 96.5% AFUE, about 96 cents of every gas dollar becomes heat in your home. Sizes run 60,000 to 120,000 BTU.
EVOX G3 electric air handler. An air handler is the indoor cabinet with a coil and blower that a heat pump uses to deliver air through your ducts. The Midea MAAHE and MAUHE series are built for the EVOX G3 outdoor unit, with electric backup heat for the coldest nights, in 2, 3, 4 and 5 ton. No gas line needed. Learn more on our electric air handler systems page.
One brand, one warranty, one call. When the furnace or air handler and the heat pump are both Midea, there's no finger-pointing between manufacturers if something ever needs service.

Furnace size is set by heat loss, not by what was there before. Many Ontario homes are oversized today, which causes short cycling. We measure first.
| Midea MGH96 size | Typical home | Installed from |
|---|---|---|
| 60,000 BTU | Townhouse, small bungalow or well-insulated semi | $3,300 |
| 80,000 BTU | Bungalow or average two-storey | Quote |
| 100,000 BTU | Larger two-storey or older home with higher heat loss | Quote |
| 120,000 BTU | Large or drafty two-storey, rural homes with high heat loss | Quote |
All sizes are two-stage, variable-speed and 96.5% AFUE. Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements such as venting, condensate and ductwork. Every quote is guaranteed.
Each air handler is matched to the same tonnage of EVOX G3 heat pump. Two series, MAAHE and MAUHE, give us options to fit your mechanical room.
| Capacity | Midea air handler models | Pairs with |
|---|---|---|
| 2 ton | MAAHE-H24B-2A / MAUHE-H24B-2A | EVOX G3 2 ton heat pump |
| 3 ton | MAAHE-H36B / MAUHE-H36B | EVOX G3 3 ton heat pump |
| 4 ton | MAAHE-H48B / MAUHE-H48B | EVOX G3 4 ton heat pump |
| 5 ton | MAAHE-H60B / MAUHE-H60B | EVOX G3 5 ton heat pump |
Air handler and heat pump are quoted together as a system, from $5,500 installed. See our Midea heat pump page for outdoor unit sizing.

That's a single-stage furnace that's oversized. The two-stage MGH96 runs on low most of the time, with longer, quieter cycles and steadier temperatures.
Moving from an older 80% unit to the 96.5% AFUE MGH96 puts about 16 cents more of every gas dollar into your home. Pair it with a heat pump and the furnace barely runs outside January.
A heat pump only hits its rated efficiency with a matched coil. The MAAHE and MAUHE air handlers are engineered for the EVOX G3, which keeps the rating honest and the warranty simple.
An EVOX G3 heat pump and air handler replace baseboards or an old electric furnace with heating that costs a fraction to run, and the electric backup coil is there for the coldest nights.
Furnace or air handler, heat pump, thermostat and controls all from one brand, installed by one authorized dealer, with the 240V circuit and venting done by our own licensed people.

A Midea MGH96 furnace installed by EHI starts at $3,300 for the 60,000 BTU size, with larger sizes and jobs needing new venting or ductwork quoted individually. Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements, and the quote is guaranteed before any work starts.
AFUE, or annual fuel utilization efficiency, is the share of your gas that becomes usable heat over a season, so a 96.5% AFUE furnace wastes about 3.5 cents of every dollar up the vent. Older 80% furnaces waste 20 cents, which is where the savings come from.
A furnace burns gas to make heat and uses a blower to push it through your ducts, while an air handler has no burner: it holds the indoor coil and blower for a heat pump, with electric backup elements for very cold nights. The Midea MAAHE and MAUHE air handlers are the all-electric option; the MGH96 is the gas option.
The air handler tonnage matches the heat pump tonnage: a 2 ton EVOX G3 pairs with the MAAHE-H24B-2A or MAUHE-H24B-2A, and the 3, 4 and 5 ton heat pumps pair with the H36B, H48B and H60B models. We pick the series that fits your mechanical room and airflow, and quote the pair as one system.
Yes. The MGH96 pairs a two-stage gas valve with a variable-speed blower, so it runs on low fire and low fan most of the time and you mostly hear a soft airflow rather than a furnace kicking on. The variable-speed motor also ramps up gently instead of slamming to full speed.
We register the furnace or air handler with Midea as part of the installation, and as an authorized dealer we have direct access to Midea parts and technical support in Ontario. Extended coverage of up to 12 years parts and labour is available on select systems when registered. Details on our warranty page.
