Heat Pump Installation in Uxbridge for Propane, Oil and Baseboard Homes

From Leaskdale farmhouses to hamlet homes in Goodwood

Out past the end of the gas line, HVAC in Uxbridge usually means a propane tank, an oil furnace or electric baseboards. We replace those systems with cold-climate heat pumps rated to -30°C, sized carefully for older farmhouses and rural homes across the township. Homes heated with propane or oil often qualify for the top Ontario rebate tier, and we file the paperwork.

  • Heat pumps for propane, oil and baseboard-heated homes
  • Room-by-room heat-loss sizing for older farmhouses
  • Backup heat planned for moraine cold snaps

Moving an old farmhouse off propane or oil

An old farmhouse is a different animal from a new subdivision home. Thick plaster walls, additions from three different decades, and a stone or block foundation that was never meant to hold a furnace. Many of them have heated with oil or propane for as long as anyone remembers.

A cold-climate heat pump can take over most of that heating. The key is sizing. Too big and it short cycles in spring and fall. Too small and it leans on backup heat every cold night. We run a Manual J heat-loss calculation room by room, look at insulation and windows, and size for the colder, snowier weather up on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

If the house has ducts, a ducted heat pump with a Midea electric air handler can replace the oil or propane furnace outright. If it has baseboards or no ducts at all, a ductless or multi-zone system is usually the cleaner route.

  • Heat-loss sizing based on your actual walls, windows and insulation
  • Ducted, ductless or multi-zone, matched to how the house is built
  • Electric backup heat or a kept furnace for the deepest cold
  • ESA-licensed electrical work for the 240V circuit and any panel upgrade

Rural heating problems our HVAC contractor in Uxbridge fixes

Life off the gas line comes with its own list of headaches. Each one below comes with the fix we'd use.

  • Another propane delivery, another big bill

Propane prices rise and fall, and a cold month can empty a tank fast. A cold-climate heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, so in many homes it carries most of the winter at a lower running cost.

  • Your oil burner is ageing and the tank won't last forever

Rather than paying for a new tank and burner, many owners put that money into a heat pump with an electric air handler. We plan the changeover so the house is never without heat, and the higher rebate tier helps with the cost.

  • Upstairs rooms in the farmhouse never warm up

Old houses often have one or two ducts serving the whole upper floor, or none at all. A ductless head in the coldest rooms adds heat exactly where it's missing, with no new duct runs through plaster.

  • Old farmhouse wiring can't take another big load

A heat pump needs a 240V circuit, and many rural panels are already full. We check the panel and service size during the assessment and put any upgrade into the same written quote.

  • You're not sure a heat pump can handle a moraine cold snap

Models like the Midea EVOX G3 and Kepler units are rated to heat down to -30°C. We still plan backup heat, either electric strips in the air handler or your existing system, for the coldest nights.

  • Baseboard heaters in the addition run all winter

On milder days a heat pump can deliver two to three times the heat of a baseboard for the same electricity. A single ductless head often replaces several baseboards in an addition or a finished basement.

  • Sound familiar?

Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.

Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements, and the number on your signed quote won't change for the agreed scope. Homes heated by oil, propane, electricity or wood may qualify for up to $7,500 through the Home Renovation Savings Program, based on heat pump size. We confirm eligibility before installation, because the program's terms can change. To spread the cost, choose 0% interest for 3, 6 or 9 months or an open loan from 2.99% OAC.

Frequently asked questions

Can a heat pump heat an old farmhouse in Uxbridge?

It can, as long as the sizing comes from a room-by-room heat-loss calculation. Cold-climate models are rated to heat down to -30°C, and we plan backup heat for the coldest nights.

How much rebate can an Uxbridge home on propane get?

Homes heated with propane, oil, electricity or wood can qualify for up to $7,500 toward a qualifying cold-climate heat pump, based on its size. You need pre-approval before installation begins.

Does heat pump installation in Uxbridge mean removing my propane furnace?

No. You can keep it as backup in a hybrid setup, where the heat pump does most of the work and the propane furnace takes over in deep cold, with one thermostat controlling the switch.

What if my Uxbridge house has no ductwork?

Ductless and multi-zone heat pumps heat and cool without ducts. Each indoor head needs only a small opening through the wall for the refrigerant lines.

Is a heat pump cheaper to run than oil in Uxbridge?

In many homes, yes. A cold-climate heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, so it often costs less to run than oil, though the savings depend on your hydro rates, fuel prices and the house itself.

Do your HVAC services in Uxbridge cover Goodwood, Claremont and Zephyr?

Yes. We cover Uxbridge town and the surrounding hamlets, including Goodwood, Claremont, Udora, Leaskdale, Zephyr and Glasgow.
