For the night the furnace quits in a York Region cold snap
When the heat goes out, HVAC in Newmarket has one job: get your house warm again and keep it that way. Our TSSA-certified gas technicians repair furnaces across town, tune them up before winter, and help you plan a replacement before the old unit gives out on a February night. Every repair is priced in writing before a single part is swapped.

Northern York Region gets a longer, colder heating season than the lakeshore. Here is what that means for the equipment in your basement.
Cold air settles in early up here, and snow squalls off Lake Simcoe roll through at times. A furnace in northern York Region often runs longer cycles than one closer to Lake Ontario.
Older homes near Main Street, family subdivisions from the 1970s to 1990s, and newer houses in the north end. Each age has its own weak spots.
Most homes here heat with Enbridge natural gas. If you are pricing a heat pump, we look at your Newmarket-Tay Power hydro rates and gas bills together.
Regular hours run 8 to 8 Monday through Saturday and 10 to 5 on Sundays. After hours and on holidays, emergency service is still available.
A cold house is stressful. The good news is that most no-heat calls trace back to a short list of causes, and every one of them can be fixed.
That usually points to a worn hot surface ignitor, a dirty flame sensor or a pressure switch that won't close. Our gas technician tests each part, shows you the reading, and prices the repair before replacing anything.
A plugged filter, a weak blower capacitor or an overheating heat exchanger tripping the limit switch can all do this. We check temperature rise and safety controls. If we find a cracked heat exchanger, we shut the furnace off and tell you straight, because carbon monoxide is not worth gambling on.
Short cycling often comes from a dirty flame sensor or a blocked vent. After a heavy snowfall, drifts can bury the white PVC pipes on the side of the house and trip the furnace for safety. We clear the cause and check that the venting is the right height above grade.
High-efficiency furnaces make water, and it has to drain somewhere. A clogged trap, a frozen condensate line or a failed condensate pump will back it up. We clean or replace the drain parts and reroute lines that run through cold spaces.
Get everyone outside first and call 911 from outside. Once the fire department or Enbridge says the home is safe, we inspect the burners, heat exchanger and venting so you know exactly what caused it.
Waiting for a failure means replacing it in a rush, often in the cold. We look at the condition of the unit, price a two-stage, 96% AFUE furnace and book the swap on a day that suits you. A planned replacement costs less stress than an emergency one.
That light is the control board flashing a diagnostic code, and the pattern tells us a lot before we arrive. Count the flashes, note whether they are long or short, and tell us when you call. It helps our technician bring the right part the first time, which matters on a night when the thermostat is already reading 15°C.
Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.
Repairs are priced after the diagnosis, because the part decides the number. New equipment starts at the figures below, and either way you see the price in writing before we pick up a tool.

Some recent work from our Ontario jobs. Neat venting, labelled wiring and tidy condensate lines are the standard we bring to every basement we work in.

Most people find us because the heat stopped. Here is the rest of what we can do once it's running again.
A breakdown and a planned upgrade follow the same four steps. Only the speed changes.
Phone 1-647-694-5845 or fill in the quote form. Error codes, noises and the age of the unit help us narrow it down before we arrive.
The technician tests the ignition sequence, gas pressure, venting and safety controls, then explains what failed and why.
You get a written price for the repair. If the furnace is near the end of its life, we price a replacement too, so you can compare.
We run the system start to finish, check combustion at the appliance and tell you what to keep an eye on.

We had a heat pump/AC unit installed by EHI, on time, on budget, great workmanship. Julian and team were knowledgeable and courteous. Dustin communicated well and is managing our government rebate for the new efficient system. Thank you Team!
Replaces our AC with a new heat pump in Ottawa and the whole experience was outstanding. From the first call, Dustin was incredibly responsive and communicated clearly every step of the way. He cut through all the usual sales fluff and got straight to what mattered — options, costs, timelines, and what made the most sense for our home. They addressed every concern I had, explained the details discussed my technical questions, and handled the installation quickly and professionally. The quality of the work is excellent, everything was done cleanly, and the system has been running perfectly since. Pricing was fair and transparent, and there were no surprises. It’s rare to find a company that combines speed, honesty, and solid workmanship like this. Highly recommended.
Recently got a shiny new heat pump installed. Went very well, nice unit and it works soooo quietly. These fine folks were very easy to deal with, professional and thourough. Would highly recommend.
Efficient Home Improvements truly went above and beyond. Our furnace failed on Christmas Eve in Ottawa, and their team stayed up late (3:00am) that night to replace it. Their responsiveness, professionalism, and dedication during the holidays were exceptional. The work was completed efficiently, and everything was explained clearly. It’s rare to find a company willing to sacrifice their own holiday time to ensure a customer’s home is warm and safe. I highly recommend Efficient Home improvements to anyone in need of reliable and compassionate service.
I recently had a new furnace and tankless water heater installed by this company. Excellent service by both office and technicians , I highly recommend!
The Installers were great.. Got in and got the job done..the furnace works amazing compared to the old one !!! Need a furnace..A/C water tankless system..there your guys!!!!
Had a tankless water heater installed and couldn’t be happier. The installation was quick, professional, and the system works great — endless hot water and more efficient than my old tank. Highly recommend!
Dustin and his team were really responsive and helpful in getting us a new heat pump to replace our broken AC unit. The team went above and beyond helping us through the process and answering other questions about the house we recently moved in to. I would highly recommend Efficient Home Improvements for any of your HVAC needs.

Sometimes, depending on what failed. A new ignitor or flame sensor is usually worth it, while a cracked heat exchanger or a failed inducer on an older mid-efficiency unit often is not, so we price both options for you.
Once a year, ideally in early fall before the heating season starts. A tune-up checks the burners, flame sensor, venting, condensate drain and safety switches, and most manufacturers expect it to keep the warranty valid.
It depends on the part, and we quote it in writing first. Cleaning a flame sensor costs far less than replacing a blower motor or control board, and we tell you which one you are dealing with. If the repair is not worth it, a new high-efficiency furnace starts from $3,300 installed, and that quote is guaranteed too.
Check the breaker, the furnace switch and the thermostat batteries, then look at the filter and the two white pipes outside for snow. If the house keeps cooling, close doors to unused rooms and run a space heater well clear of anything that burns. Never use the oven or a barbecue for heat.
Yes, snow can block the white PVC intake and exhaust pipes on a high-efficiency furnace, which makes it shut down for safety. Gently clear the snow from the pipes, then reset the thermostat, and call us if it still won't run.
It can, especially as a hybrid where a cold-climate heat pump handles most of the year and the furnace takes over in deep cold. Enbridge gas-heated homes may qualify for a smaller rebate, commonly up to $2,000, so confirm eligibility before installation.
