AC Repair · Mississauga
Licensed refrigeration techs, a written quote, and straight advice on R-22 units
AC repair in Mississauga gets busy the first week the lake breeze turns to soup. Our licensed refrigeration technicians diagnose the fault, quote the fix in writing before any work, and tell you plainly whether an air conditioner from the 1990s still running on R-22 deserves another dollar. Evening and weekend visits are available.

The lake makes summer here stickier than it is up in Brampton, and older equipment feels it first. Here is what each symptom usually means.
In a two-storey, cold air falls and the upstairs ducts sit at the end of the run. We check the charge and the coil first, then static pressure and the damper settings. Often the fix is airflow, not refrigerant.
That is an R-22 system with a leak. R-22 has been phased out in Canada and the remaining supply costs more every season, so a yearly top-up is the most expensive way to own an air conditioner. We pressure test to find the leak, then give you two numbers: the repair, and a replacement that runs on current refrigerant.
An oversized or single-speed air conditioner satisfies the thermostat before it has run long enough to pull moisture from the air. We check the sizing against a heat-gain calculation and the blower speed setting. Sometimes a lower fan speed fixes it; sometimes the unit was simply too big from day one.
A swollen run capacitor or a pitted contactor is the usual cause, and both are on the truck. If the compressor itself is pulling locked-rotor amps, we test it properly before giving you news you will not like.
Ice means the coil is running too cold, from a filter that has not been changed since spring, a blower that is slowing down or a charge that has leaked away. We thaw it, find which one it was and fix that rather than just switching it back on.
The AC coil sits on top of the furnace and drains into a line that, in a damp basement, grows a slime plug by July. We clear the drain, add a trap and a float switch if there is none, and check the pan for rust.
Tell us the model number on the outdoor unit. We will say which failures are common on it and what they cost, and we put a replacement price next to any major repair so you can decide with real numbers.
Side-yard condensers in Streetsville and Clarkson sit a foot from the fence and collect fluff every June. A matted coil pushes head pressure up and cooling down. A proper coil clean, with the top off and the fins straightened, is often the whole repair.
Describe the problem and we'll tell you what it usually is, what it costs to fix, and whether it's worth fixing.
Air conditioner repairs are priced after diagnosis, in writing, before any work. If the unit is beyond saving, a new central AC is quoted in writing too, and a cold-climate heat pump that cools and heats starts at $5,500 installed.
| Service | Typical price in Mississauga |
|---|---|
| AC repair Diagnostic visit plus common parts such as capacitors, contactors and refrigerant leak repair | Quote after diagnosis |
| Central air conditioner, installed Lennox or Midea, sized from a heat-gain calculation | Written quote |
| Cold-climate heat pump, installed Midea EVOX G3 or Kepler, 2 to 5 ton, rated to -30°C | From $5,500 |
Installed pricing depends on size and installation requirements, and every job gets a written, guaranteed quote. Qualifying cold-climate heat pumps can bring back up to $7,500 through the Home Renovation Savings Program, and financing runs 0% for 3, 6 or 9 months on approved credit.
One visit, a full set of readings, and a price you approve before anything is replaced.
Tell us what the system is doing and whether anyone in the home is at risk in the heat. We give you an arrival window when we book, and heat-wave calls with vulnerable people go first.
A licensed refrigeration technician checks the thermostat, the capacitor and contactor, the fan and compressor amp draws, the refrigerant pressures and the airflow across the indoor coil.
You get the repair price in writing. On an R-22 unit or anything past 15 years, you also get a replacement number, so the decision is made with both in front of you.
Most common repairs are done from parts on the truck. We run the system, confirm the temperature drop across the coil and leave you with the readings.
When an old AC is done, a cold-climate heat pump is what we quote first. It cools exactly like central air, runs at variable speed so it dries out a muggy lakeshore afternoon, then heats the house for most of the winter too. For sunrooms and basements without ducts, the ductless line does the same job on its own.

A diagnosis is only useful if it is thorough. These checks come with every call, whatever the fault turns out to be.

If the data plate on your outdoor unit says R-22, the unit was built before 2010. In Mississauga that usually means it went in with a 1990s house in Meadowvale or Erin Mills, or replaced the original in a Cooksville bungalow. R-22 production and import have ended in Canada, so what is left is recycled stock at a rising price.
Our rule is simple. A capacitor, contactor, fan motor or drain repair on an R-22 unit is fine; those parts do not care what refrigerant is inside. A leak repair plus a recharge, a compressor or an evaporator coil is where we stop and show you the replacement number, because you would be putting a large sum into refrigerant that is going away and a unit with no warranty left.
The replacement we quote first is a cold-climate heat pump. It cools the same way an air conditioner does, runs on R-454B, and takes over most of your heating from the Enbridge furnace, which is what makes it eligible for the Home Renovation Savings Program. A straight central AC is still the right answer for some homes, and we quote that too. Our AC repair and maintenance page covers the full list of faults we fix across Ontario, and our Mississauga HVAC page covers the rest of the house.

Your quote is your final price. No surprise extras on the agreed scope of work.

We had a heat pump/AC unit installed by EHI, on time, on budget, great workmanship. Julian and team were knowledgeable and courteous. Dustin communicated well and is managing our government rebate for the new efficient system. Thank you Team!
Replaces our AC with a new heat pump in Ottawa and the whole experience was outstanding. From the first call, Dustin was incredibly responsive and communicated clearly every step of the way. He cut through all the usual sales fluff and got straight to what mattered — options, costs, timelines, and what made the most sense for our home. They addressed every concern I had, explained the details discussed my technical questions, and handled the installation quickly and professionally. The quality of the work is excellent, everything was done cleanly, and the system has been running perfectly since. Pricing was fair and transparent, and there were no surprises. It’s rare to find a company that combines speed, honesty, and solid workmanship like this. Highly recommended.
Recently got a shiny new heat pump installed. Went very well, nice unit and it works soooo quietly. These fine folks were very easy to deal with, professional and thourough. Would highly recommend.
Efficient Home Improvements truly went above and beyond. Our furnace failed on Christmas Eve in Ottawa, and their team stayed up late (3:00am) that night to replace it. Their responsiveness, professionalism, and dedication during the holidays were exceptional. The work was completed efficiently, and everything was explained clearly. It’s rare to find a company willing to sacrifice their own holiday time to ensure a customer’s home is warm and safe. I highly recommend Efficient Home improvements to anyone in need of reliable and compassionate service.
I recently had a new furnace and tankless water heater installed by this company. Excellent service by both office and technicians , I highly recommend!
The Installers were great.. Got in and got the job done..the furnace works amazing compared to the old one !!! Need a furnace..A/C water tankless system..there your guys!!!!
Had a tankless water heater installed and couldn’t be happier. The installation was quick, professional, and the system works great — endless hot water and more efficient than my old tank. Highly recommend!
Dustin and his team were really responsive and helpful in getting us a new heat pump to replace our broken AC unit. The team went above and beyond helping us through the process and answering other questions about the house we recently moved in to. I would highly recommend Efficient Home Improvements for any of your HVAC needs.

AC repair cost in Mississauga depends on the failed part, so we give a written quote after diagnosis and before any work. Capacitors, contactors and drain repairs sit at the low end; compressors, coils and refrigerant leak repairs cost more, and on an older unit we quote a replacement beside them. A cold-climate heat pump replacement starts at $5,500 installed.
Yes. We take air conditioner repair calls evenings, weekends and holidays across Mississauga, and homes with infants, seniors or anyone at risk in the heat go to the front of the line. You get an arrival window when you book.
It depends on the part. A capacitor, contactor, fan motor or drain repair is usually worth doing. A leak repair with a recharge, a compressor or an evaporator coil usually is not, because R-22 is phased out and costly and the unit has no warranty left. We show you both numbers.
An air conditioner that cannot keep up on a humid day is usually low on refrigerant, blocked by a dirty coil, short on airflow, or oversized so it short cycles before it dehumidifies. A diagnostic visit measures each of those, and the fix is often airflow or a coil clean rather than a new unit.
Yes. Our licensed refrigeration technicians repair ductless wall units as well as central air, including the single-zone heads many Mississauga homeowners have added to sunrooms and basements. Common faults are a dirty filter or coil, a blocked condensate drain, a sensor fault or a refrigerant leak at the flare connections.
It can. If the new unit is a cold-climate heat pump on NRCan's qualified list and pre-approval is in place before installation, the Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $7,500 for homes heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and a smaller amount, commonly up to $2,000, for Enbridge gas-heated homes. Confirm eligibility first, because program terms can change. Financing at 0% for 3, 6 or 9 months is available on approved credit.
